Send TRE Interns to Help Communities in Need
Help TRE Los Angeles sustain our internship program, the first of it’s kind anywhere, and bring trauma healing and resilience building to Los Angeles’ most under-resourced communities.
Last year TRE Los Angeles piloted our internship program and sent interns to organizations such as Homeless Healthcare LA, Exodus Recovery Center, and Program for Torture Victims. This year we want to continue these partnerships, but we need your help!
People coping with homelessness, drug addiction, and violence are often unable to lift themselves out of toxic circumstances due to personal histories filled with trauma and stress. Without access to care, treatment, and resources, the chaos that swirls around them can be all consuming and prevent sustained progress. As organizations seek to help these populations, many state that the modalities available to them have limited success addressing toxic stress and trauma cycles. We can give individuals a safe place to live or a job, but what are we doing to address the root causes and effects of addiction, poverty, and violence on the individual level?
Uniquely combining organic movement with mindfulness, TRE is a simple, effective, self-empowering technique that releases trauma at its root, boosting capacity and increasing resilience. Once learned properly, TRE is a self-guided practice. When an individual learns TRE they gain a valuable, permanent tool of self-regulation and healing that they can use to close the stress cycle and move forward in life.
Because many of these communities are so under-resourced, the only way we can bring proper transformative resilience training is to provide interns at no cost to them. The vast majority of funding support organizations receive is limited to conventional modalities that don’t fully and effectively address trauma. This is where you come in.
When you donate today, you sponsor a graduate from our TRE Certification Program to bring comprehensive transformative resilience training to needy populations. Your investment has a twofold benefit:
- Individuals get relief. Homeless Health Care LA supports LA residents experiencing homelessness, Exodus Recovery Center serves low-income individuals coping with chronic mental health challenges, and Program for Torture Victims provides for refugee survivors of torture seeking asylum in Los Angeles. Your donation helps send our interns into these organizations to facilitate transformative resilience workshops and give these individuals a chance to heal.
- Interns get invaluable experience. We have many exceptional graduates from our TRE Certification Program and our internship program gives graduates the opportunity to deepen their capacity and expand their skills. This experience prepares interns to serve a broader spectrum of populations as they go out into the world.
Sponsoring a TRE Los Angeles intern sends immediate trauma relief to some of those who need it most and is a long-term investment in the future of this groundbreaking work.
Here is what our interns have to say:
As a TRE intern at Program for Torture Victims and Exodus Recovery Center, I serve diverse and transient populations, preparing me to bring TRE to people wherever I’m called. Knowledgeable and compassionate, with a heart firmly in public health, the mentoring and support I’ve received is invaluable as I grow as a TRE provider.

Through learning, or re-learning, self-regulation within TRE, clients at PTV have an opportunity to practice choice over what they experience physically and emotionally. Practicing self-regulation within a structured format like TRE provides practical experience in setting boundaries, a vital part of the healing process.

Just $3,240 per intern provides 45 hours of direct, hands-on support in the form of group and individual work at our various sites, most of which don’t have the budget or bandwidth to add crucial services. If we raise $6,475, we can fund the supervision and work of TWO interns. If we raise $16,187.50, we can fund FIVE! And you can be confident that your contribution will have an immediate impact, supporting direct, hands-on care that can help change lives for the better.
Last year we brought 108 sessions of TRE instruction to 477 individuals, and this year we’d like to reach even more people in need. So if you believe in a holistic approach to healing systemic problems like homelessness, addiction, violence and more, please consider giving today. At TRE Los Angeles, we address trauma at its root and we need your help reaching people who can’t come to us. We HAVE to go to them, and you can make that happen.
Thank you for your support!
