My name is Maria Auxiliadora and I came here 16 years ago. Unfortunately, when I came to California, I had leave my daughter K in Nicaragua with my cousin at a very young age because she has Scizophrenia. So, I have to work very hard to be able to pay for all of her medical and food and special education and care that she requires. For the last twelve years, I worked at a laundry mat six days a week. Unfortunately, the laundry mat changed hands so I lost my job. I work in a new laundry mat, a few days a week, but the income is not enough to take care of all of the expenses for my daughter.
