I love reading on the train, I love buying books and I want my books to be loved by others after I’m done with them. I also love living around Anstey and being part of the community. So combining these two things leads to opening a Street Library that can be accessed by people walking to the train, waiting for a bus, or just walking to and from the shops or school.
I hope that by crowd funding this project of mine, it will create a sense of community ownership and encourage people to use it and love it.
I will buy an official weatherproof Street Library from https://streetlibrary.org.au/p/the-catalogue/ to keep the books safe and dry, and available to everyone. The campaign covers the cost of a library plus shipping of it. I will then provide the initial book collection and maintain it. Anyone can add a book to the library and swap an old love for a new adventure.
Initially I will host the library on my fence on Albion Street, but there is potential for vandalism, however I hope that being in a residential area the surveillance factor, and shared community ownership will minimise this risk.
