Kiva lenders support many of the 22,000 indigenous women throughout Guatemala who participate in the “Microcredit Plus program (loans + education) of Friendship Bridge. The women are provided beneficial lessons in four main areas: business, women, family, health.
The department of Chimaltenango is one of the areas supported and is the home of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Girasoles” (or “Sunflowers”), with eight enthusiastic members who have businesses selling clothing, shoes, perfumes, snacks, ice creams and bread. They are pleased to begin their first loan cycle.
Most Maya women have little or no formal education but 39-year-old Rosnelly is an exception. She is an accountant! Rosnelly has five children (ages 7-20) and she works hard to provide a primary, secondary and university education for each of them. She is able to do this with her business buying/selling shoes. She is requesting a loan to buy new stylish shoes for the summer season.
Rosnelly shares that she is very grateful to Kiva and Friendship Bridge for their generous support that provides her and her friends with pathways to achieve their dreams of business successand healthier, happier families!
Thank you, Kiva lenders, for helping these women become empowered and successful!
