Ride the Myth is an Australian based, artist run record label whos mission is to record and promote artist who merge and re-imagine traditional musical styles from around the world.
We are still in our early stages, and are working towards producing and releasing our first full length album with Melbourne based Affia Band, featuring West African musical royalty Yusupha Ngum.
Here a little bit more about the band:
Colourful six-piece African fusion outfit, The AFFIA Band, is world-renowned Gambian singer/songwriter Yusupha Ngum’s newest creative undertaking.
Born into the traditional griot (culture-sharing) lineage of Senegambia, Yusupha’s artistic expertise is embedded in the wisdom of ceremony and storytelling, for the passage of rites, human strength and community connection.
Through The AFFIA Band, Yusupha builds upon the celebrated work of his late father, famed Mbalax singer Musa Afia Ngum, to deliver messages of peace, hope and unity through sweet, mesmerising song.
Yusupha’s expressive style is a powerful musical force, with lyrics that are both heartfelt and historical. Through the development of a unique contemporary style, Yusupha Ngum and the AFFIA Band captivate audiences with soulful stories of peoples and places worldwide.
The band also features Ethiopian saxophonist Solomon Sisay, Stephen Khlentzos on keyboard, Hiroki Finn Hoshino on double bass and Felix Billing Kleinman on drums.
The album will be produced and engineered by Ride the Myth label founder Travers Nash.
AFFIA Band and Travers worked together to produce the bands four track demo E.P available for listening on the Ride the Myth soundcloud page.
The funds will be put towards studio hire for the production, mixing and mastering of a 12 track full length album.
We will produce an initial limtited run of 250 vinyl L.P’s, as well as an initial 500 copies on CD.
The vinyl and cd will be produced and manufactured by local companies right here in Melbourne!!!
Ride the Myth is artist run, and we are putting ourselves out into the music industries purely to release and share the music we love. In order to find a balance between supporting the musicians and artists we work with, and keeping ourselves running as a self sustaining business, all future profits (i.e once production costs have been covered) from record sales will be split 50 / 50 with the artists.
The songs are written and ready to go… we just need the time and space to make it all happen!!
