Oscar came into our lives as a Seeing Eye Dog puppy. We were foster parents in his formative puppy age and trained him in the basics of good manners and obedience to prepare him for a life as a Seeing Eye Dog. Oscar was with us all day every day. This meant that he became our office dog too and he showed us what a dog knows about life and how to keep zen in a crazy world. While Oscar didn’t make the grade as a seeing eye dog, he will now start training as a reading dog to help people who struggle with literacy. I bet you didn’t know dogs could do that either!
As publishers, we thought it would be a nice idea to share this wisdom with the world, especially because we had also amassed lots of fabulous photographs of Oscar just being Oscar.
So we plan to publish a gift book of colour images with words of wisdom to help people smile and feel a little better about the world. There isn’t enough of that is there?
Oscarisms is due for release in May 2017 and will donate $1 for every book sold to Seeing Eye Dogs Australia to help them train dogs to help vision impaired people have a better quality of life. Money pledged to this project will go towards the printing of books in full colour.
We hope you can come to the launch on Saturday 27th May, 3-5pm at our Publishing Studio in Montmorency. You’ll be able to meet Oscar and give him a pat. He’s a bit of a legend here in Montmorency.
This book is written by Kev Howlett and Blaise van Hecke and photographs mostly by Kev with a few by Blaise. Our publishing studio is taking care of all the production but colour printing can be expensive. The funds will be used primarily for that. If we go over our target, we will donate 50% of the above target dollars straight back to Seeing Eye Dogs Australia.
Our main challenge will be to spread the word about this book. We are hopeful that this project will help us do it.
