Marathon des Sables
6 marathons over 6 days across the Sahara Desert
On the 7th April I will be heading out to the Sahara Desert to run the Marathon de Sables. A gruelling 6 days, covering 250km (156 miles) through the blazing heat of the Sahara where temperatures will reach 50°C, carrying all my own food and equipment.
I will be doing this in an attempt to build a school for some of the most needy children in rural Uganda who currently have only a tree for a classroom. Build Africa, a charity I have supported for several years, works with the most vulnerable children in remote areas of Uganda. For these children the constant threat of drought means there is never enough food, and they are often forced to drop out of school at 10 years old. An education will give these children a chance to end the daily hardships of their lives.
With your help I want to raise £20,000 to begin the process of building a school in the Ngora district of eastern Uganda. Through Build Africa we will build a classroom to provide a safe and productive learning environment, provide books to develop children’s reading abilities and clean drinking water so children stay healthy and are better protected from illness. An education for a child in remote areas of Uganda is a lifeline. Please give all you can and I will share with you photos of the school we have built and the children whose lives we have changed. Thank you.
