CSS Squeezer – To only squeeze the necessary CSS from the style sheets
CSS Squeezer – To only squeeze the necessary CSS from the style sheetsTo this day, every second we unnecessarily download gigabytes of CSS which will never be utilized. It is time to change. It is time for CSS Squeezer.
Why CSS Squeezer?
The CSS itself is a great thing, a great invention. It defines the formatting of HTML documents, it helps in improving websites, and it is easy to use. Nevertheless, by its nature, it makes it difficult to maintain the style sheets by creating duplications or rules which are unnecessary or no longer used.
Furthermore, over the past few years the use of CSS ready library is increased. Examples of such libraries are Bootstrap or front-awesome, which overload the websites with dozens or hundreds of useless CSS rules. In addition, if we consider that access to Internet websites increasingly occurs through smartphones and tablets, and that the time of the download and rendering of the websites themselves are crucial, it is obvious why it is necessary to have light and quick websites in order to improve their performances.
What CSS Squeezer will be
CSS Squeezer will be a low-cost tool, easy to use, and accessible via Internet, which will analyze Internet websites in such a way that it will remove all the unused CSS found in external files or documents in order to merge duplicate rules, to report any errors and suggestions, to minimize all style sheets found, and, eventually, to bring them together. All this, of course, will be done without changing the websites’ appearance.
What will you get?
When will you get it?
Once will have raised enough funds, the project will be completed within a maximum period of four months. However, we expect to extend this period by a further month in order to execute all necessary tests to create the best possible program. The supply of the program is estimated to occur in October 2017.
The raised funds will cover the server costs, the purchase of necessary livences and hopefully the chance to turn this idea into a startup.
CSS Squeezer is a complex project that will take a long time to be completed. It will be developed with the help of collaborators, and some parts of the final project will be possible thanks to the use of software or third parties (either open source or licensed). However, the major proportion of the project will be written from scratch.
We currently do not foresee insurmountable difficulties. Nonetheless, if something unexpected and likely to delay the completion of the project shall occur, the new release date will be announced as soon as possible.
