With the “Microcredit Plus” program of Friendship Bridge (loans + education), Glenda & 7 Kaqchikel ladies who live in Chimaltenango have access to loans and educational training. Their Trust Bank is called “Flores del Campo Yepocapa”. Glenda is the President of the group. She is married, 27 years old, and the mother of two children. The oldest child is nine years old and enrolled in the second grade. Glenda has a sixth grade education. She sells pants as well as bedspreads to women and men from door to door. She is requesting a loan to buy new styles of pants and bedspreads.
Monthly educational sessions are of vital importance to the success of Glenda and her friends in the group. Since they have had little or no formal education, they are eager to learn about themselves (reproductive health, women’s roles, and rights), their families (nutrition, hygiene, and health), and their businesses (planning, investing, and saving). A facilitator from the organization uses games, role playing, diagrams, and pictures to transmit the information.
Thank you, Kiva investors, for extending a helping hand to these women! You are much appreciated!
