A loan of $1,500 helps to purchase a living room and a refrigerator for her house.

Nana’s story

Nana is a 45-year-old Syrian refugee. She is a married mother of four. Since they fled from their home town in Syria, she has been working hard to support her husband in covering their family’s increasing living needs.

Nana had her own beauty salon in Syria. Unfortunately, due to the war in Syria, she had to get employed three years ago with a limited monthly salary.

Through a loan from Kiva’s field partner, Al Majmoua, Nana will purchase a living room and a refrigerator for her house.

She is looking forward to opening her own beauty salon in the future and to attracting new customers.

This loan is special because:

It gives opportunity to Syrian refugees who have fled the war in Syria.

More about this loan

This loan provides Syrian refugees currently living in Lebanon access to financial services that are denied to them through traditional sources and micro-finance institutions. Al Majmoua provides these loans to individuals and groups. The group loans use an innovative structure that connects both refugees and Lebanese nationals to increase collaboration and lower discrimination between the two. By supporting this loan, you are helping Syrian refugees, one of the most marginalized individuals in Lebanon, develop their businesses, provide for their families and integrate into the Lebanese society.

About Al Majmoua:

The Lebanese Association for Development – Al Majmoua is Lebanon’s leading microfinance institution and the oldest Kiva partner in Lebanon. Al Majmoua’s vision is to “be the leader in creating an inclusive financial system where all people in Lebanon have access to affordable services.” Given Lebanon’s diverse population, Al Majmoua lends to all nationalities, provided legal residency. The strong financial position achieved to date has allowed Al Majmoua to steadily lower its pricing over the years.

Based on the belief that non-financial services play a complementary role in improving the quality of life of the most vulnerable entrepreneurs, Al Majmoua has established a solid Business Development Services program for both borrowers and non-borrowers with a focus on women and youth.
