From the Saddle Up: My love affair with leather began with a bar of glycerine soap in hand and a wall of glistening bridles towering above my reach in all directions. The smell was intoxicating. It was a childhood memory that I carried to adulthood. After completing my BS in Architecture, I moved to Jackson Hole where I continued to pursue design in Architecture, Garden and Landscape, and furniture. Horses, leather, and fine saddlery remained in the fore front of my life while raising my family. Leading a busy family driven life, including competing on the rodeo circuit, momaging two children the household and family properties, I got very good at wearing many hats, and coming and going out of my car with multiple task bundles. Copperdot leather goods emerged from this lifestyle as a means to better organize my life…so I could get on with life.
While riding along one day, I was daydreaming of the perfect partner to tag along with me, that would help me manage all my task bundles and give me a sense of peace and order I so craved. With hands on my reins I began designing the perfect leather bag. And thus was born the No. 1 Bag, my best seller, raised from the saddle up.
I hope do develop Copperdot leathergoods into a business that supports myself and a community of young crafters and designers while being outlet for my creative visions. But more than just a bag company I want to build a company that people want to engage with, and a company that people are drawn to and curious about but they don’t know why. Through design and materials I can inspire people to be authentic, original, and uncomplicated.
