If we can reach our ‘dream goal’ in the next 60 days we will INDEPENDENTLY release a new album in October 2017. This will be our first full length release since 2006. We have been hanging out and working on new music, for the first time in years. We are excited to record these songs and share them with you. #FokofCrowdFunding

because of the urge of 5 youngsters from shit-hole Bellville to break away from the mundane promise of the gold watch at the end of your forty-five working years at Sanlam.
We wanted to carve out a new path for ourselves. It was a transparent platform for the lives that we wanted to live.
It started with
As the band continued, we experienced personal freedom. Jumped in the van and toured all over the country. No rules. No conversation was taboo. We were striving for
Freedom from our past as well as our boxed-in stereotypical Afrikaans future.
I am Francois.
I am Snake.
I am Johnny.
I am Hunter.
and we are,
It feels like an insult to call our fans ‘fans’. Something intangible binds Fokof to our audience. As members of this band, we often feel like we are just a vehicle for the ‘Spirit of Fokof’ to express herself.
It’s never been possible for us to release an album on our own. We are dependent on other people’s money. And dependent on an industry that is built on the exploitation of the artist. Over the past few years things have changed.
This Fokof thing just won’t die. We’ve tried to break up, but we couldn’t. It’s bigger than we ever could’ve dreamed; and that’s because of one thing…YOU.
Now there is a platform where we can finally live out the third part of our three-part motto.
To release the new album by means of this platform we can deliver directly to our fans without any middle men.
Passion. Liberation. Independence.
Success!
We can’t promise to blow your minds. We can’t promise that this album will change the world, South Africa, Afrikaans or your existence.
The writing of this album is a very personal process. Again, we argue about who we are and wonder what the fuck is going on and what the fuck is the point of all this shit. This is something we need and that is important to us at this specific moment.
There is going to be swearing. There will be tears and laughter and fucking head banging. And there will be A LOT of THINKING. Something all of us should do more for sure.
Other bands and artists have shaped us and enriched our lives and we hope to do the same for you.
So, if you’re keen, buy our album or something….
Fokofpolisiekar was formed in 2003 when a group of friends from Bellville decided to start an Afrikaans rock band. The sound was fresh and very different from the Afrikaans rock pioneers that had gone before. In the 14 years since their inception, they have reached cult status in their home country and Fokofpolisiekar has become a household name.
Fokofpolisiekar is:
Francois van Coke (lead vocals)
Hunter Kennedy (guitar and backup vocals)
Johnny de Ridder (lead guitar)
Wynand Myburgh (bass)
Jaco Snakehead Venter (drums).
The band is based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Fokofpolisiekar has become known for their explosive live performances and raw on-stage energy. Controversial and ever-questioning in their lyrics as well as their lifestyle, the band has generated much controversy in the South African media.
The band has, however, garnered accolades from the Afrikaans literary community for the powerful conveyance of their intelligent, poetic and honest-to-the-bone lyrics. Their continued success and ever-growing popularity which transcends class, age and race bears testimony to their artistic substance and social impact and to being far more than just an outrageous name.
In 2007, Fokofpolisiekar took a break and during this break three other, very popular, groups were formed by the various members: aKING (with drummer Jaco Venter), Die Heuwels Fantasties (with guitarist Hunter Kennedy on bass and Johnny de Ridder on production) and Van Coke Kartel (with Francois Van Coke on guitar and vocals and Wynand Myburgh on bass).
After a short hiatus, Fokofpolisiekar returned to the stage in August 2007 and has been touring and performing live since then.
In 2014 the band produced a beer (Lager) named Fokof Lager. The lager has since the launch been very successful. Although originally only released on tap the lager will be available in bottles from May 2017.
Fokofpolisiekar has released 2 full-length albums, 3 EP’s and 2 singles to date.
We are excited and ready to release our third full length album.
