Hello beautiful people, how many of you 3D artists wish you could easily show others what you do but had to say “oh, it won’t load on my phone”, “I don’t have wifi”, “wish I had a computer so you can see it better”? We’re in 2017, how is this still happening?? Not anymore!
I’m a 3D generalist steering towards becoming a technical artist (or am I already a tech artist? … titles…) and I’d been waiting for an app that would let me show my work easily without internet and anywhere anytime but it never came, not like I wanted it anyways. So I decided that I must create one myself, one that catters to all my needs and that would let me show off my work in the best way possible, and in the process of thinking about it I thought that I’m probably not the only 3D artist that would love this so I’m making it for all of us. It still needs some work though and even though I love working on this I’m a human that needs to eat and a place to live in order to keep working on it so here I am.
The video is a recording directly from my phone (March 9th, 2017).
As it is right now, the features are:
To load the files you just ned to put them in a folder that the app creates inside your phones internal memory and run the app. I’m going to implement faster and more practical ways of getting the files there rather than do it manually, but this is how it works at the moment.
Features next on the list (to be done before launch):
Other neat features that’ll be added later on:
Right now to import your stuff you have to put it in a specific folder in your phone, but I’m going to add a way so that when you plug your phone to your computer you can just right click the items you want to transfer and it’ll automatically send them to the correct folder, and something similar for when you download them directly from your phone to avoid having to put them there manually.
The app is going to be free with no ads, all the features and a limitation of 4 model slots as it is for launch. To get updates and unlimited slots you’ll need to get the $5 version. I’ll still update the free version with bug fixes and stuff but no new features.
The more this campaign is funded the more features I can add to the free version. I want to make it accessible for everyone but I need to eat and get a roof over my head. If you’re a student or can’t spare $5 then you can get the full version for free if you message me, but if you can afford the $5 fee then I would really appreciate it and you’ll be supporting a hungry dev :)
Soon. I will set the delivery in Kickstarter to be June but if everything goes smooth and according to plan it might be ready before May, I’m in a complicated situation right now so I rather say that it’s going to be later than what I have planned in case things go south (if they do I will still be able to finish it before June). Also, I need to test with different phones to make sure it all works correctly and that takes time. Testers are the first ones to get to use it though, as soon as before the end of this month!
tl;dr: Hopefully by May, but if things don’t go as planned then by June.
Besides having to meet my needs as a human, I also need testers, so even if you cannot help me with money you can help me test it, all testers that do get back to me with feedback about it will get the pro version for free. To become a tester you just need to subscribe to this list so I can send you the app for download and keep in touch with you.
What do testers do? You just install the app and use it, then tell me all you see wrong with it, that’s it.
I will start sending the app for testing before the end of March.
I’m focusing first in making it work for the Android platform since that’s the one I have, but I plan to make it available for iOS and Windows phone in the future if I have the opportunity, once everything is working great on Android. Sorryyy
If you would like to see something in the app then please let me know. This doesn’t mean that it’ll be added, but I’ll certainly consider it.
Feedback about the app and campaign are welcomed and encouraged.
I need funding because I need to eat and pay rent so I can mantain myself and work in the app. I’m in Canada, graduated this last December and have no work permit so I cannot work locally, I’m a freelancer (I don’t need a work permit as long as I’m not competing with the local job market) but it isn’t enough to pay the debt I have, keep maintaining myself and have time to work on this, I can only choose 2 out of those 3 things. So in order for me to be able to finish this app (which I’m very close to) I need your help. The idea of having the perks set like this is so that you can see how your investment is being spent.
One dollar helps, it does make a difference. 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 … it adds up. I set the app free because I want it to be accessible to everyone but if you have one dollar to spare and you think it’s a cool app then I would really appreciate it if you help me backing the project.

Please share, one of the best ways to help me out for free is to share this, it only takes a minute and it helps way more than you would think.
The main risk I see right now is that the testing phase takes a little bit more time than what I’m expecting it to, but to address this I’m being honest with you and letting you know that it might take me until June to be able to launch if things don’t go the way I’m planning them to.
Also, I’m not adding the fbx import option for before launch because I need a third-party person to program that for me, a runtime fbx importer for Unity that works on Android. But then again, this is not needed for launch so I don’t think it really counts as a risk for the project. I know of someone that’s already working on that but I don’t know how long it will take them, if the project gets enough attention then I might be able to pay them to focus more on that or hire another person to do it.
I might or might not be able to include particle systems, depends on Unity’s limitations, but I think it’s very possible. I’m not sure yet though, they imported once in the editor and then it stopped working so I don’t know yet, that’s why it’s in this section.
Cool app for 3D artists to show their work while offline on mobile, I need funding to survive while making it, it’s gonna be free and dope. Please share :)
*I modelled, textured, rigged and animated the models you see in the video.
