Loch Fyne Viking Festival celibrates its Viking heritage with Viking raids in Ardrishaig, Inveraray, Lochgilphead, Portavadie and Tarbert.
Loch Fyne Viking Festival 6, 7, 8 and July 2017
The first Loch Fyne Viking Festival was organised in 2014. It was a great success with huge visitor numbers at all parts of the festival. The festival was organised again in the summer of 2015, again with a lot of success. The Viking theme seems to have struck a chord with local residents, visitors, businesses, local organisations and authorities. Loch Viking Festival has certainly shown its potential to develop into a main summer event for the local population from as well as for visitors to the Loch Fyne area.
The following villages are expected to participate in Loch Fyne Viking Festival in 2017: Ardrishaig, Inveraray, Lochgilphead, Portavadie, Tarbert.The following groups are expected to contribute to Loch Fyne Festival in 2017: Glasgow Vikings, Causeway Archers, Medvind, Magnus Vikings, Norwegian Vikings from Tønsberg.
In each village Glasgow Vikings will erect a Viking settlement for the public to visit and re-enact Viking battles. At each location Causeway Archers (Northern Ireland) will give Viking archery demonstrations and give the public the opportunity to try archery. Medvind (Sweden) will provide musical story-telling with Viking music at all local events. In Tarbert there will be a re-enactment of Magnus Barfot’s longship portage from West Loch Tarbert to East Loch Tarbert, using Tarbert’s own Viking longship.
Loch Fyne Viking Festival is a not-for-profit community run event financed through local fundraising, donations sponsorships and grants and organised by a volunteers from the participating villages . The raised funds cover the expenses of the contributing groups and the organising costs.
