We are hoping to crowd-fund some money to help produce this film – that’s where YOU come in!
This film is based on the H.G.Wells story ‘Door in the Wall’ and will be a contemporary adaption focusing on its themes of childhood, memory and place. The film will take place at three different locations.
The first is London and we are introduced to our male character who is a drifter. He spends his evenings wondering through secluded pathways and the backstreets of London which lead him to encounter the mysterious door. This door takes him to two further locations.
We plan to film at is Predannack Airfield, Cornwall: a surreal plane graveyard. We will have a child (the main protagonist when younger) wander through the airfield. This will act as a representation of the character’s relationship to space as a child that will then contrast with the character’s relationship to it in the present. He is drawn to it as a place of reflection and stillness.
The third location is a moving image studio which will have access to through our University.
In order to make our film happen we need any contribution you can manage to fund our transport, accommodation, two actor’s, child actor’s chaperone, location hiring, staff hiring, catering for a crew of eight plus actors, equipment hire, props and costume! Let me break it down…
Transport: The furthest potential place we must travel to is Cornwall, think of those train fares…yikes!
Accommodation: Then there’s those hotels in Cornwall for our crew, our child actor, his chaperone…how many people can we fit in one bed?
Location Hiring: Predannack is officially owned by the Ministry of Defence…there’s a lot of organising going on behind the scenes and this part isn’t cheap. We are going to need you to dig a little in your pockets…dig a little more..
Staff Hiring: SUPERVISION!!
Catering: ..well
Equipment Hire: We are going to be renting extra equipment outside of University benefiting our film further
Props/Costume: a good looking cast makes a good looking film, we will be working with mirrors which can be seen in the test shoot video on this page and costume for both actors
Not only is this project 60% of our final grade (EEEK!) but your help could mean we could send our film into film festivals!
In all seriousness, we are very hard working and our track record in class proves it. Your money would be used wisely and carefully distributed between each department accordingly. We hope to have this finished by May and then you can see the work you’ve helped create.
We do plan to work with a child actor and so he will have strict hours for working, this does limit us for time. Also, there naturally comes risks when working on an airfield especially with a young actor but we are prepared with supervision and correct risk assessments distributed.
Late night shoots in London will be involved along with getting all of the equipment up there. This will be solved by providing everyone with necessary safety equipment like high vis jackets, torches, etc. Getting the equipment safely to the destination will be done through Uber and/or local transport.
Don’t worry if you can’t help out financially, just by sharing this Indie GoGo you are helping us tremendously! Thank you for taking the time to read this and we look forward to making this film!
