A 15-20 min documentary film, interview series, and book that features 1500km road trip across exotic Borneo.
Pan Borneo Road Trip is a non-profit-organization Borneo Art Collective’s initiative, to explore and document in-depth the art and culture heritage of Borneo through a 30 days, 1500km road trip across exotic Borneo.
By 2017 March, crew members from Borneo Art Collective are moving back to carry out the Pan Borneo road trip – to explore the unexplored, find out what is under the radar, discover more art and cultural related content. We know these stories will inspire you like how they have inspired us for the past 6 months.
Through this road trip, we will be travelling to different parts of Borneo, exploring the undiscovered, and to further articulate the hidden art and cultural stories due to lack of media exposure. Your contribution towards the fund will cover transportation fee, operational fee and accommodation.
We believe these stories carry a global message. Our action is an alternative response we choose to have towards a common perception: If you want to have the best conversation of art and culture, you better go to big cities like New York, London, Tokyo….
As much as we love these places, deep down we know this should not be how it is. We know this is not simply our own concern, it is a concern shared amongst different people globally. Answering this question requires us to start somewhere, and we decide to start from Borneo.
Since the establishment of Borneo Art Collective, we were overwhelmed by the amount of positive responses we received from our audience, artists and our friends. However there are constraints in our web based approach. In order to pull together more in-depth content with a holistic approach, we decided to upgrade our scale of operation. After numerous discussions, it was decided there is no better way to do this than a Pan Borneo Road Trip.
Borneo art collective is an online based platform that documents tangible and intangible Borneo art and culture. Initially, the platform was created out of our own interest, and to answer simple questions like:
We set out our journey by interviewing people, putting together articles and uploading them to the internet world. The feedback from it was overwhelming. Our audience base grew from hundreds to thousands, our core team grew from 3 people to 8 people. All volunteer basis. It was because we all believe in one thing, these local stories do carry an important global message.
Our group constitutes a film-maker, curator, architect, graphic designer and writers. Our artist statement for this project is: by the end of this road trip, we will contribute our skills toward the documentation of Borneo art and culture.
Shipping items could be challenging, but we do know some good courier service we could work together with.
