200 drawings of migrants that wont need translations
DESSINS SANS PAPIERS is a collective that organises drawing workshops
on refugees camps and shelters in Paris.
THE PROJECT
Drawing is a universal translator that overcomes language barriers, and creates images that everyone can understand. Since this summer, we have collected more than 400 drawings, we now want to reunite them in a book that wont need translations.
THE WORKSHOP
Each of these drawings tells a unique story that escapes the anonymity of camps. Also these workshops allow us to switch roles. Here it is the migrants who give to us. They entrust us with a mission : to share these stories with those who want to understand their situation, beyond figures and politics.
Drawing by Mohamed Nour Wana.
THE BOOK
This fall, Le Ravin Bleu committed to print 1000 copies of the book at a solidarity price.
To remain independent, we have chosen crowdfunding as the most direct way to mobilize a community around this project.
We now need your support to finance this book which will bring together 200 reproductions of colored drawings, with testimonials, photos of the workshops and an introduction translated into English.
The book will be mapped by two professional graphic designers in A5 format (21 X 14.8 cm), and shot on offset printers.
Your donations will first be used to print the 1000 copies of the book, to finance the shipping costs and the potential sending of the first 300 copies to you, and to pay Ulule’s commission.
They will then allow us to have a stock of books that we can distribute and whose sale will enable us to donate 4 euros per copy to associations that organize French courses for migrants such as the Parisian Committee of Exile Support (CPSE), the BAAM and the Thot school. The rest of the profits will help us to fund our workshops and organize meetings around the book.
We are journalists, urban planners, drawers, teachers, movie makers, photographers, musicians, artists, activists, and supporters. After the book, we will continue to organize workshops because they are opportunities to meet, and make DESSINS SANS PAPIERS move.
An association, ATELIER SP, was created to manage the donations of this project.
