Perseverance, faith, honest work and responsibility led Ruth to start practicing mixed farming 10 years ago. As the key breadwinner of her family, consisting of a husband and child, she farms a small plot of land in the green, lush hills of Kericho, in the Rift Valley region of Kenya. Ruth decided to start mixed farming with the hope of giving her family a better quality of life.
Ruth’s desire to get ahead is admirable because, despite her age and the obstacles she has experienced, she doesn’t reduce her efforts to achieve her objective. What she sets out to do, she achieves.
Ruth practices mixed farming on her farm, and through her profits, she has managed to take care of her family’s needs, and also give her children a good education.
Ruth is seeking a loan of 50,000 KES to buy seeds and start horticulture farming on her farm. Ruth wants to take advantage of her area’s favorable weather patterns, the good road network in her village, good soil, and a ready market for horticulture products, to reap more profits.
Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva to help hardworking women like Ruth make their farming dreams come to reality through training and loan financing.
