6-in-1 app featuring 125 gauges, performance meters, data logging, video, and fuel efficiency feedback to save you $660/year in fuel.
About this project
Since the original Kiwi’s introduction in 2008, we repeatedly get asked the same question, “Does Kiwi have it’s own app?”
Development of an app designed specifically to take advantage of Kiwi’s award winning hardware has been long overdue. We’re proud to announce Kiwi, the OBD app reinvented.
6 Apps in 1
MultiGauge – Display up to 125 parameters in 6 preset modes (dashboard, engine, efficiency, trip, gear, and custom). This professional customizable dash was designed to outperform even the most expensive cars. Includes intelligent features such as peak-hold and intelligent warnings, as well as a library of styles and colors. – Display up to 125 parameters in 6 preset modes (dashboard, engine, efficiency, trip, gear, and custom). Fuel Efficiency – Drive smarter. Studies performed by fueleconomy.gov show that 33% of fuel is wasted simply by inefficient driving habits. Our proprietary Kiwi Drive Green driving behavior algorithms provide optimal fuel efficiency feedback for any vehicle or driving conditions. Kiwi Drive Green receives sensor inputs, ‘learns’ your driving styles, and computes it into a ‘Kiwi Score.’ As you drive, the app conveniently displays your score alongside other fuel efficiency parameters. Keep the needle in the green to save an annual average of $660 in fuel costs*.
Performance – Measure your vehicle’s true performance without spending $1000s on dynamometer testing, track testing, or drag strip runs. Kiwi measures real-time horsepower and torque and other metrics such as 0-60 times, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile times, skidpad, inclinometer and more.
Diagnostics – Diagnose your check engine light without the hassle of visiting your dealer or mechanic. View the specific error codes, as well as a simple description of the problem, from the convenience of your home. Once the problem has been addressed simply press reset to clear the code.
Don’t work on your own vehicle? Use Kiwi Diagnostics to keep auto shops and dealers honest.
Data Logging and Video Overlay – Capture live video with real-time data overlay. A great tool for driving trips, fleet vehicles, auto cross, and track days, Video Overlay mode simultaneously captures video and sensor readings to provide you with professional video feedback of your drive with superimposed real-time sensor data. Analyze vehicle performance. Select from up to 125 sensors to record, pause, stop, playback and export your data.
Built specifically for the world’s smallest, fastest, most versatile OBD adapter. Up to 4 times faster than the nearest competitor, Kiwi 3 uses ultra low power, installs in seconds, and can be left permanently installed in your vehicle. Kiwi 3 is compatible with all standard OBDII protocols and is able to update firmware via Bluetooth. When inserted into your OBDII port, Kiwi 3 sits just 0.68 inches thin making it the smallest, most discrete OBDII adapter.
Easy as 1-2
Just plug Kiwi 3 into any OBDII port and launch the app. It’s that simple.
Gas and diesel. Kiwi OBD is compatible with any US gas vehicle manufactured after 1996* or diesel manufactured after 2000. For international OBD standards please click here.
Electric and hybrid. Kiwi OBD can also be connected to hybrid and electric vehicles to monitor horsepower/KWPH, miles per kilowatt, range per charge and more.
US imperial and metric measurements. Whether you’re in the United States or international, measurement setting can easily be toggled for local standards.
Sensors and Parameters
Kiwi app is capable of displaying up to 125 parameters. These parameters are an accumulation of OBDII PIDs, Calculated Parameters, and PLX Devices MultiGauge sensor module data.
Concept to Release
With hardware taken care of the primary focus on this project is development and testing.
About PLX Devices
Founded in 2003 by entrepreneur and technology enthusiast Paul Lowchareonkul, PLX is proud to be located in the heart of Silicon Valley California where technology and innovation have been driving forces since the digital boom. PLX holds a number of patents and has manufactured more than 40 products in just the last 14 years. The spirit and passion for creating amazing products is shared by all of the members of the PLX team.
We strive to deliver an exceptional customer experience and have recently grown our support team to assist Kickstarter backers. Whether you’re troubleshooting or choosing your next device, our friendly knowledgable technicians are here to help!
Our Kickstarter History
Thanks to Kickstarter and over 18,500 backers, PLX has raised over $1.58 Million and brought 6 projects to life. We’re now extremely excited to bring our 8th project to life and we know you’ll enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Our Automotive Legacy
Our mission is to design the world’s most innovative products and deliver a world class customer experience. All PLX products are designed in California and manufactured at internationally recognized quality standards and procedures such as ISO9001 and ISO/TS 169.
Our concept for an all-in-one gauge was created in 2007. After we debut our DM-200 OBD gauge at the world’s largest automotive aftermarket show SEMA in Las Vegas, we received numerous awards of recognition.
We’ve received SEMA 3 best new product awards, 2 Popular Mechanics Editors Choice awards, and over 100 SEMA Global Media Awards.

Risks and challenges
PLX Devices has been designing and successfully bringing products to market for over 13 years with a focus in automotive and consumer electronics. Kiwi App will be our 8th Kickstarter project. We’re absolutely confident we can do the job.
Electrical Engineering – We don’t expect any significant problems to arise as this has been our area of expertise for over a decade. Our Kiwi hardware is already in full production with steady deliveries to our customers already. Our backers of the app with the Kiwi hardware will receive their hardware reward shortly after the campaign is over.
Software Engineering – We also don’t expect any significant problems to arise, as this has been our area of expertise. PLX Devices Inc. is located in the Silicon Valley, California where Apple and Google are headquartered. We have access to the best and most talented software engineers in the world. If a problem were to arise, it would be in detecting bugs in the software code which could hinder Kiwi from communicating with the apps on various phones, tablets, and etc. To combat this, a simple update to the software code will solve any problems that may arise.
All PLX Devices hardware products are manufactured in some of the world’s best factories that adhere to internationally recognized quality standards and procedures such as ISO9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14000, TQM, SPC.
Kiwi App Alpha release is almost finished and we’re ready to go into production for full release. We need your help and we hope you’ll join us to make this project a reality.
