Seven Seas is a unique web platform to discover, stream and license authentic international music from curated repertoire using a patent-pending map while re-numerating artists in developing countries
Seven Seas Music (SSM) is a unique web platform that serves as an international marketplace for the buying and selling of music licenses. This genre of music has huge commercial value given the rise of global media production. Synchronization licensing is an estimated 2billion a year business, and international music is about 20% of this market.
As seasoned music rights executives, the co-founders know that the greatest difficulty for content creators is finding access to and sourcing quality international music. Transactional issues like time zone differences, language barriers and facilitation of payment, pose an even bigger challenge. SSM solves these problems and more on one easy-to-use platform. SSM allows the user to discover and listen to music using a patent-pending map which allows search by country (e.g. Spain, Portugal), region (e.g. Galicia, Andalusia, Catalan) and over 200 hundred other musical characteristics. Select the music you wish to license and make an impact by remunerating these artists in developing countries around the world.
With little to no marketing effort, the company’s client list includes CNN, HBO, CBS, NBC, TVT, Fox, Vice, GoPro, The Richards Group, trailer houses and many more in film, web and TV production. We retain 30-50% of each deal brokered and have closed 200x more deals this year than in 2015. The focus today is to streamline third party licensing for audio-visual productions, yet we aim to scale up by expanding user-base and serve as the destination for international music discovery and streaming on a subscription model.
SSM is based in San Francisco, and has a Los Angeles creative director and a New York label relations manager. Our SF-based content manager is responsible for ingesting and managing the vast majority of the company’s current repertoire, which is hand-picked and has grown from 3100 to over 10,000 tracks in less than six months. The platform is undergoing a UX facelift to improve functionality and performance, and we have a new map thanks to our VR developer.
