Socheat’s Group’s story

Socheat is 33 years old and has four dependent children, two of whom are too young and the other two who are in school. She is originally from Sangke district in Battambang province. She tries to earn income by raising pigs and cows, which has been an important source of her income for around 10 years. Her husband catches fish to sell to complement her income.

Socheat is a client participating in her second loan cycle with VisionFund and she completely paid back the first loan on time. As the leader of a two-member group, Socheat will use her loan portion to buy pig feed in order to support her pig-raising business. In the future, she hopes to expand her business so that she can earn additional income to improve her living conditions.

About VisionFund Cambodia:

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
