Shani’s story

Hello, my name is Shani and I am a first generation Jamaican-American who was born and raised in San Francisco, CA and the owner of Peaches Patties: A Jamaican Kitchen. I grew up watching my Mom, “Peaches” create Jamaican dishes for our family. I learned all of my cooking skills from my mother and grandmother. About 3 years ago I decided to share my mother’s legacy of cooking with the Bay Area. I am diligently working on growing my business in addition to finishing my doctorate degree. My dissertation is titled, “Family Restaurant Succession in San Francisco: A Phenomenological Study”. With the high demand for Jamaican food in San Francisco and the tremendous growth of my business, I hope to expand my business into a brick-and-mortar location one day.

This loan is special because:

It supports a community-focused chef looking to reach more customers with her Jamaican delicacies.

More about this loan

Business Description

Peaches Patties is a Jamaican catering company based in San Francisco and we specialize in a variety of Jamaican Patties and other popular Jamaican cuisine. All of our menu items are made from scratch including our freshly baked patties. We also serve vegan/vegetarian/gluten free items for people with dietary restrictions that want to experience the food of Jamaica. We want our customers to experience our tasty traditional Jamaican cuisine with a touch of modern flare. We have already won fans through Cater2Me, EatWith, events and festivals including the San Francisco Street Food Festival, The Museum of African Diaspora, and regular popups at 18 Reasons.

The inspiration behind Peaches Patties is my mother whose nickname is “Peaches”. She was born and raised in Jamaica and moved here to marry my father in the late 1970’s. My mother is famous for making her homemade Beef Jamaican Patties. These homemade Jamaican Patties have been a family favorite and now we have the opportunity to share our tasty Jamaican Patties with the Bay Area. As her daughter, who was born and raised in San Francisco I am excited to share my mother’s Jamaican home cooking through our company Peaches Patties.
