Mithung is in her late 40’s, has an organic egg farm. She is a member of the Akha tribe in northern Thailand, one of several different ethnic groups across the mountains in southern China, Laos, Burma, Vietnam, and Thailand. For her entire life, she has grown beans on family land in the mountains near her home. But because prices of her farm goods go up and down, her income is very unpredictable, and is rarely enough to support her family. She has 700 egg laying hens to raise on farmland . Selling the eggs she gets every day can potentially triple the income she makes now. And, because she could only sell beans once or twice a year, her egg farm will give her and her family a monthly source of cash for her life. She will be able to put her new income towards sending her kids to school, buying better food for her family, and repairing her house.
