MOON Switcher: Wireless Control of All Your Guitar Gear

by Aalberg Audio

Use the MOON to control ALL of your favourite gear wirelessly, straight from your guitar.

About this project

MOON is a wireless switcher that plugs into amplifiers, effects pedals and MIDI units, allowing the musician wireless and instant control of the device.

To remotely control the MOON you can either use:

  • The AERO controller, a wireless remote controller that can be attached to the guitar or guitar strap
  • The Aalberg REMOTE app, a free application for wireless control and preset storage using a tablet or smartphone

The MOON can be plugged into guitar pedals, amplifiers and MIDI units using interchangeable cables.

Plug the MOON directly into the footswitch input of your amp to switch between channels and onboard FX – wirelessly.*

  • Channel switching (clean/lead) for most guitar amplifiers (using two switches)
  • Reverb/other FX toggle on/off (depending on the amplifier’s functionality)

*Currently, the MOON works on standard amplifiers with 2 switches and stereo (TRS) jack connection, as used on Marshall®, Fender®, Orange®, VOX®, Roland® amplifiers. Development of alternative switching standards is set to be released 2017.

Attach the MOON to the ABY/FX-Looper adaptor to create a wireless ABY switcher between amplifiers or an FX-loop for pedals:

  • ABY: Toggle between two pedal chains or amplifiers
  • FX-LOOP: Toggle between active and bypass for your favorite effects pedals

See timeline for ABY/FX-Looper functionality in “Timeline” below.

  • Control MIDI devices by assigning any MIDI message (e.g. CC, PC, Note On/Off) to the buttons of the AERO or using the REMOTE app
  • Can be used with any MIDI-controllable gear, which includes popular hardware and software like Kemper®, Strymon®, Ableton Live®, Garageband® and more

See timeline for MIDI functionality in “Timeline” below.

You can store up to three presets across a total of eight units on the AERO Remote Control. The REMOTE app allows you to store an infinite number of presets.

Recall your presets with one press of a button on the AERO or directly from the Remote App to change the parameters of up to eight units – simultaneously!

The MOON, the AERO controller and the REMOTE app communicates using Bluetooth version 4.1. Cutting edge wireless technology ensures fast and stable connection between our products.

Here is a video of Mr. Aalberg himself, the inventor Rune A. Aalberg, in which he showcases how the Aalberg system works. The video demonstrates the MOON and its control options, the AERO Wireless Controller and the REMOTE app.

The AERO Wireless Controller can be mounted directly onto your guitar using high grade velcro. AERO also includes a clip for belt or guitar strap attachment. Choose whichever method best accommodates your playing style!

Store an infinite number of presets across a total of eight MOON-connected devices and Aalberg FX pedals. The presets can be instantly recalled from the AERO wireless controller or from the Aalberg REMOTE app. The app also enables real time control of your devices.

Bluetooth technology is a tremendous success story which began in Scandinavia. As a Norwegian company we take great pride in bringing the next generation of Bluetooth technology into the realm of music equipment.

We worked extensively with Nordic Semiconductor, one of the industry leaders in Bluetooth chip manufacturing. Bluetooth chips from Nordic are found in everything from sport and fitness sensors, to wireless gaming consoles. Just like us, Nordic was founded in the city of Trondheim, Norway

For the design of the MOON and AERO, we worked closely with the multi-award winning Norwegian design agency EGGS Design.

EGGS Design has become renowned for providing product and service designs to a wide range of industries.

The MOON is a quality product Made in Norway. The manufacturing of its electronics is handled by our Norwegian production partner.

A prototype in the making.
A prototype in the making.

Just like with our other products, assembly of the MOON is handled at the Aalberg Audio HQ in Norway. Our production team has already gained valuable experience, having assembled and tested several hundred wireless units.

Risks and challenges

MOON is already in an advanced development and testing stage.
The device is based off of the wireless products that Aalberg Audio has already developed and distributed to music stores around the world. The current working prototype is being sent out to reviewers and publications.
When producing and developing electronic equipment, one can sometimes run into unexpected obstacles. The channel switching is fully developed and working seamlessly, but the ABY and MIDI switching are yet to be developed, so there is a possibility of some delays to the process. However, the Aalberg Audio team has at this point accumulated years of experience developing, manufacturing and delivering wireless products on a global scale.

We are dedicated to keeping our backers updated on a regular basis, both on highlights and potential challenges in each step of the process.
