We are 100 Wonder Place, and we absolutely believe in the amazing artistic capabilities of all children! We also believe in the power of Play, and letting children lead the way, especially when we S-L-O-W D-O-W-N and just create side by side. In July 2015, we partnered with Lismore Regional Gallery andLismore City Council to present The Arty Party, a FREE children’s arts festival in a downtown Lismore park.
There were roving performers, a theatre show, giant bamboo cubby house building, paper drawing games, fitness games, dance workshops, percussion workshops, family picnics, and teams of families playing together in the Real World… the list goes on and on… It was a fantastic success, and we all want to do it again 11-4pm THURS 6 OCTOBER 2016. We are SO LUCKY to be partnered again with Lismore Regional Gallery, Lismore City Council, & Lismore Business Panel; The Northern Star newspaper named us one of the top 5 events not to be missed this year!
100 Wonder Place is non-commercial, and makes fun, playful, and innovative arts experiences that encourage exploration and creative learning in an inclusive and joyful way. And we want to keep it FREE! So help us ‘pay it forward’ by supporting our campaign, to ensure that all families can play together in Art, regardless of circumstance.
100 Wonder Place are: Gabrielle Griffin, Valley Lipcer and Claudie Frock. We are 3 friends who have worked together for more than a decade, bringing our varied skills of performance, practicing visual artists, creative producers, directors, writers, educators and community arts workers. We all have strong connections with community, children and families through our roles as mothers, aunts, educators and regional artists.
We love to upcycle and re-use as much as possible, including sticks, bamboo, and cotton fabrics. We also love cardboard, paper, homemade playdough, and glittery paint. But that stuff can’t just be found in the garden or lying around at the op shop or kitchen you know? Well actually, a lot of it can. Which is so cool, and why we love to use it. But we still have to source it, recycle it or buy it.
We need your help to pay for all the other essential stuff we can’t wiggle our way out of, like insurance, First Aid, and material costs we can’t upcycle, like paint, glue, nails and screws, not to mention all the incredible local artists we are employing for your delight.
BUDGET:
Arts materials supplied FREE on the day (paint/paper/glue/cotton/wool/tape etc): $1500
Set building incl labour: $2000
Artists/workshop leaders: $1200
AUSLAN interpreters: $800
Costume hire/making: $800
Transport: $500
First Aid supplies/misc: $200
TOTAL: $7000
We are also dedicated to creating an inclusive and accessible day, making The Arty Party available to as broad a community of participants as possible. Therefore, we also need to hire Auslan interpreters for the day, and design and build all elements so that they are wheelchair accessible. Let’s keep The Arty Party free for everyone!
Festivals take a huge amount of resources, and a fabulous event like this IS expensive to put on. We have debated long and hard about our philosphy of free art play; we KNOW we can put on an amazing, memorable, professional festival, but the reality is that we must also pay for a lot of things. Phew, it’s a busy time, and the whole team works long and hard on it.
