What are Stem Cells and How do they Repair the Body
Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into any cell type in the body. They serve as the body’s primary internal repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells. If there is an injury, chronic disease or inflammation a stem cell has the potential to differentiate into whatever cell type is needed to fix the problem such as a muscle cell, a bone cell, or a nerve cell etc. When healthy stem cells are injected into the injured area, they work primarily by turning on and augmenting the body’s own repair mechanism.
The Science and the Team Behind It
GIOSTAR, led by Dr. Srivastava, opened the world’s first dedicated stem cell therapy hospital in India in July of 2011. So far they’ve successfully treated over 4,000 patients. They utilize only adult stem cells for regeneration and rejuvenation treatments. These stem cells are derived from the patient’s own body fat or bone marrow and then injected back into the problem areas to repair them. This science has been used to successfully treat diseases including, lupus, multiple sclerosis, and other auto-immune diseases, diabetes, kidney disease as well as various orthopedic injuries and many other degenerative diseases.
Considering the vast array of diseases and injuries that could benefit from this treatment we estimate that there are over 60 million potential patients in the U.S. alone. Chronic Diseases account for $3 out of every $4 spent on healthcare. This easily equates to over $1 trillion spent each year in the U.S. alone that could represent a market for our treatments. In 2013 over 900,000 Americans sought this treatment outside the U.S., and this number is expected to grow about 20% annually. We are planning to open the first facility at a world renowned hospital in Colombia located near an international airport which is less than a 3 hour flight from most Americans.
The company receives a portion of treatment revenues from the three proposed clinics. Each treatment will cost approximately $15,000. We anticipate treating about three patients per day in year one growing to 20 patients per day in year five.
