Flipd was developed by 3 millennials seeking to find a solution to how easily distracted their generation is. Cristian thought of the idea when he noticed his 14-year old brother had become obsessed with his new smartphone, and the team originally launched Flipd as a parental control app in early 2015. It quickly became evident that students were instead using Flipd to manage their phone use for productivity. After repositioning Flipd as a productivity app, it has been downloaded in more than 100 countries worldwide, has saved more than 150,000 hours of its users’ time, and has been featured by Forbes, Bloomberg, Gizmodo, El Financiero, and other media outlets internationally.
Now, we’re piloting a tracking software that helps improve engagement in the classroom. With Flipd, we can track when students are not on their phones during class, and instructors can can incentivize their students to stay focused through a participation grade. The business model for this product is distributed through instructors to students, and the students pay $2.99 annually to use Flipd in multiple classes. The market potential for this product is 17 million students in just the US alone.
