Help get Walter Cleans Up, the second book in a series of kids books, illustrated. Then translated and distributed nation wide.
Helga’s Big Splash was published a few years ago and kids (and adults) love it. It deals with fat shaming in a safe way. The book has been read by the author in schools from Nyanga, to Knysa to Bulungula in the Eastern Cape.
It has also been distributed for free Nationally and translated into isiXhosa, isiZulu, Sepedi and Sesotho by the reading scheme, Nal’ibali.
Helga has 3 friends in the book. Each of which has their own story yet to be told.
Helga’s friend Walter’s book is up next! The story, “Walter Cleans Up” is already written and now we want to buy our illustrator and designer time to finish it.
At the same time we want to read Helga in schools and spread the Helga love.
Our milestones
R 60 000 will get Walter illustrated, designed and made into a PDF which could then be distributed via the Nal’ibali reading scheme in newspapers nation wide. Just like Helga.
R 100 000 will allow the first milestone to happen while also getting Walter published traditionally and available in bookstores.
Archie loves drawing. Matthew loves writing. If Archie doesn’t draw, he gets sad. If Matthew doesn’t write, he gets ratty. Both Archie and Matthew have Masters Degrees in their fields. The story about Helga came to Matthew in a flash of inspiration. It took Archie a bit longer to draw the lovely pictures. Our happiest moments are when we take Helga’s story out into the world and share it with children. We would love Walter’s story to also see the light of day.
