Secret Identity Comics
Comics. Community. Charity.
Comics. Community. Charity. As a non-profit comic book store, we understand and value our connection to the community. Proceeds from sales at Secret Identity Comics provide funding for our Comics for College Scholarship Program, as well as our Comics for Kids Literacy Program. These programs would not be possible without the support of our incredible customers, who made it possible to award $50,000 in scholarships last year.
Secret Identity Comics opened last year inside the Atrium Gift Shop at St. David’s Medical Center. With only seven comic book titles, a small bookshelf, and a whole lot of passion, this small non-profit comic book store has grown to encompass dozens of mainstream and independent titles; a sizable back stock of golden and silver age comics; and, more importantly, an active, and engaged subscriber list.
Some say with great power comes great responsibility. For us, with great success comes even greater need for space. This is where we need your help.
We are Austin’s first non-profit comic book store, and now we want to be Austin’s only non-profit comic book store serving the East Austin community. In order to achieve this goal, while maintaining our Comics for College Scholarship Program and our Comics for Kids Literacy Program, we need to raise $65,000. This will provide us the financial means to secure a rental property in East Austin; hourly wages for two additional employees; increased inventory; monthly expenditures; as well as unanticipated capital expenditures.
With your contribution you will be creating educational opportunities for countless under-served, and financially disadvantaged students; however, there’s more! Check out our perks list to see what else you will receive with your contribution.
Your contribution, no matter how small, will ensure that we increase our Comics for College Scholarship Program to include more financially disadvantaged students, as well as expand our Comics for Kids Literacy Program into more local area elementary, and middle schools. Your contribution will help us move into a larger location in East Austin, which currently has no comic book store serving that community; as well as the addition of two new staff members; and increasing our inventory.
Risks & Challenges
There are no risks associated with your contribution to Secret Identity Comics. Regardless of our location or size, we will remain a non-profit comic book store. We will continue to work tirelessly to provide a lasting impact to the community we serve with our Comics for College Scholarship Program and Comics for Kids Literacy Program.
Additionally, because of our non-profit status your contribution, no matter how small, is tax deductible.
If you are unable to donate, make it a point to stop by Secret Identity Comics and purchase a comic book. All the proceeds from comic book sales goes to fund our Comics for College Scholarship Program and our Comics for Kids Literacy Program. Or, sign up to volunteer at Secret Identity Comics. Our volunteer program pairs volunteers with local area schools to help with reading proficiency through our Comics for Kids Literacy Program.
