Savannah’s story

My name is Savannah Aily Jackson. I am 45 years old. My love and passion for horses began when my father put me on a horse and taught me to ride in my very early childhood. When I was thirteen, he gave me my first horse, a retired track thoroughbred named Steele, who came with me to Oregon State University in Corvallis where I majored in Pre-Veterinary medicine, emphasis in equine. My plan to pursue rehabilitative and preventive sports medicine for the top equine athletes was tragically derailed in my junior year upon the untimely death of my father. In the difficult years after my father’s passing, I explored new avenues which taught me a lot about sports medicine, horses and being an athlete. I became an avid rock climber and eventually an international athlete competing in the Eco Challenge in Borneo, Fiji, Nova Scotia and British Virgin Islands. I even came close to losing my life in one and again just 6 months later in a major ski patrolling accident. These intense and life changing events proved to be the crucible which returned me full time to my passion of horses. In 1998 I attended a private curriculum for Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique for horses in Seattle, and also many courses through Equinology; to learn the methods in preventive sports medicine and horse wellness to rehabilitate horses who suffer from chronic inflammation and pain. I went back to riding professionally full time, and studied how horses needed to be able to move and perform freely to do the jobs being asked of them and also to prevent major accidents, health crisis, and injury for both horse and rider. I also studied and worked closely with many veterinarians, horse health experts, world level trainers and learned alternative therapies. I then combined all of this knowledge and experience and developed an entirely unique and proprietary system of health and longevity I call Elevates Equine Lifetime Soundness. Currently I live in South Lake Tahoe, CA and teach my system of horse health and horsemanship in the Bay area. I do regularly scheduled demonstrations, talks and clinics at Stanford University and environs. My plan is to develop a school and have this system be an accredited, endorsed and recognized health method that can be taught and practiced worldwide in schools, universities and equine programs.

This loan is special because:

It supports the education and training of horses to improve the welfare of horses globally.

More about this loan

Business Description

Over the 18 years in the role as sole practitioner of horse physiotherapy for equine soundness, I was continually asked by owners and trainers how and when they could learn the method themselves. I began to see my role shifting from sole practitioner to educator through social media, internet presence and global marketing and reach. This curriculum has now been developed and I am in the process of protecting it, as well as getting endorsement and accreditation to be recognized as a license-able and teachable practice.

In 2014 the Stanford stable, the Red Barn, requested that I give monthly demos and clinics and the demand grew from there to the point where I recognize the limitations to expand without employees and outside funding. Elevates Equine Soundness has proven to set new standards in horse care and training, even eliminating large financial losses due to unsolved, repetitive injuries. It can prevent horses unnecessarily being put down, sent to slaughter or placed in rescue facilities.

The past 6 years, Savannah has refined and specialized her skills, and has focused being in a small geographic area of California to shift into this new role as educator. She has been doing every aspect of the business herself. Developing the website, social media presence, business strategy, marketing, accounting, and developing the teaching curriculum in order to expand and take this system into a larger market. The videos I am developing will create community and online educational programs. This entire operation has primarily been self –funded and also with enormous support from family, clients and friends. I am working closely with a business professor who is a counselor at the Small Business Development Center here in Tahoe, developing a specific plan to take this step by step to be successful and structured for growth in the coming years.

What is the purpose of this loan?

I will produce free and sell-able videos on a new and improved website, begin a strategic and extensive marketing strategy, get legal documentation and copyright protection, hire 1 employee to assist in the plan, purchase financial software to manage and forecast business plans and future sales. I will also set up travel arrangements to build strategic partnerships with the local colleges and vet schools to begin the process of endorsement and accreditation : Stanford, Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo, and UC Davis.
