Scandal and Gallows are bringing our five-star adaptation of Conrad’s Heart of Darkness to the Clapham Omnibus. Help us build our set!
Heart of Darkness – the inspiration behind Apocalypse Now – is the story of one British sailor’s encounter with the dark realities of Empire in Africa in the 19th century. From the deck of his steamboat some years later, Charlie Marlow relives his harrowing journey down the Congo River to find an infamous ivory trader, the elusive Mr Kurtz.
Scandal and Gallows Theatre are a young theatre company of recent Cambridge graduates. Last year we brought our one-man adaptation of Conrad’s story to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – to some excellent reviews.
“Great things will come of this company” ***** British Theatre Guide
“Riveting… a voyage not to be missed” **** The Sunday Times
“A breathless, beautifully performed monologue” **** The List
Now we’ve been booked by the Clapham Omnibus to join their Perception Festival: Voyage, an exploration of how movement in space impacts identities and meanings. We’ll be performing at 8:00pm on Friday 14th of October – but to participate, we need your help.
With just £150 we can rebuild the set we need to perform. Your contribution will also enable us to give the show a life beyond Clapham. Heart of Darkness is an important piece of classic literature that addresses urgent issues of race, memory and agency. It’s also on many A-level syllabuses. With our new set, we’d be able to take our adaptation to a wider audience in theatres and schools around the country.
Do feel free to contact members of the team for any more information, and thank you so much for your support.
