New album from Trails and Ways — 11 songs of lush anticapitalist dreampop.
We are cooking up a new album: Own It. We need you to help bring it out to the world!
STORY OF THE NEW ALBUM
The sound of this album crosses from dreamy bossanova up to the most upbeat rocknrollwe’ve ever made. There are hooky guitar leads, and back & forth vocals between me (Keith), Madeline, Rebecca and Kendra.
We started tracking right when we got home from our Brazil tour in December. Now we’ve built up every song with layered harmonies, melodic basslines and driving live drums.
After a lot of upheaval in the last year–the departure of two dear band members foremost–for us, this music reaches a new level of intimacy and courage. The album has aspiring ecosocialist anthems, sinewy love songs, a club jam for dancing in your bedroom, and a groovy party song about getting social anxiety at parties. I think we’ve made a set of songs far more personal, powerful and honest than we ever have.
Own It will have eleven tracks, all new originals. It’s the first album I’ve ever made that I like to listen to on repeat. Finally, I have become a true rock n’ roll narcissist.
Face up to your true self and find catharsis! Own It! Put a nail in capitalism’s coffin! Own It! Destroy neoliberal malaise, inside and out! Own It!
HOW WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Your support will help us:
We want to do this album as a self-release in large part because we feel we can count on you, dear community of T&W listeners, to help us own this album ourselves. Releasing with a label usually means you don’t earn a cent on selling/streaming your album until you’ve paid back the label’s expenses, usually at least a year after the release.
If we own this album ourselves, we’ll get sustained by it right away, meaning we can focus on live shows and making new songs. Even better, owning this album ourselves means we get to release it on the timeline we want–which means new music sooner for you.
Thank you for anything you can offer to support, and thank you for being a part of making this music come to life. Let’s own it together.
We plan to officially release the album on October 7. A week before that, we plan to send it digitally and ship it physically to all our Kickstarter supporters.
Crazy things can happen to timelines in the music biz, but everything is lined up solid for that right now.
