My name is Ellena Haile and I am an Ethiopian-American who has been a resident of Jamaica Plain for the past 29 years.Shortly after I graduated from college, I was married and bought my first home for $52,000with a $5000 down payment my husband and I saved. And with that investment, I planted my roots in Jamaica Plain.I have three children and there names are Helena, Zachary and Isaac .In199I I inquired into a business that was closed for many years on South Huntington Avenue and shortly after a lease was signed and I opened the Blue Nile restaurant, which served Ethiopian cuisine for fourteen years. Due to the ongoing increases in rent and excessive costs of maintenance, the business ceased to be profitable. After working for a few years for a social service agency, I decided to open a small Ethiopian restaurant in Jamaica Plain where I lived most of my life. The restaurant enjoyed many devoted followers and positive reviews on JP Gazette, BU Paper, Trip advisor, Boston Globe and won Boston best Ethiopian Restaurant 2015.At this time Blue Nile is plan to expand its operation to include catering, manufacturing and distribution to stores within Massachusetts and later expand to New England Region.I believe that these business ventures highlight both my experience and my entrepreneurial skills.
