I’m originally from El Salvador, and by nature an entrepreneur. I arrived to America with a heart filled with sorrow and hope. Sorrow for the hardship left behind, hope for the extraordinary sense of opportunity this country instills in all newcomers. Like many others in the United States, I found myself with nothing to start anew but resilience and faith.
I soon found meaning in my first job as a nanny in San Francisco. The entrepreneur in me turned that opportunity into a nascent business in my home where I could care for three children simultaneously and earn a little more than $5 per hour.
Then I found a community agency, I learned that I could have a formal business in this country, but moreover, I learned that I could make it grow. Once I obtained my child care licenses and business permits, the City of San Francisco approved Delia’s Little Angels Day Care and now I take care of 14 children in my business.
I’m a woman with great initiative and always looking for opportunities for my professional development. I enrolled in the Dual Language program provided by the First 5 program, which provided me the opportunity to continue with my education. I transferred to San Francisco State University and graduated with my BA in Raza Study in 2012.
