Hi! I’m Natasha – a designer, maker, educator, and the creator of TechnoChic.
TechnoChic is a combination of my three passions: technology, design, and teaching.
As a kid, I loved to craft. I was always making things and asking for the latest craft kit for my birthday. I decided to go to school for design, and after graduating with my BFA in 2008, I worked as an educator teaching computer lessons inside an Apple store. I loved showing customers how empowering computers could be (especially for creative endeavors) so I returned to school to further explore the intersection of technology and design. There, I met other women like me who were fairly new to DIY electronics, and we realized that girls had less opportunities to learn about electronics as kids because it was thought to be only an interest of boys. I set out to change this by presenting electronics in a place I would have discovered them as a kid – as a craft kit!
This loan is special because:
More about this loan
TechnoChic technology-infused DIY craft kits make creating with electronics easy and fun! My dream is to design educational experiences that inspire crafters to discover a love for creating with electronics. I make unique and desirable kits using paper and electronic components, and focus on a low-cost, fun and creative building experience that makers can’t resist!
I have designed two collections of kits that are in the works:
Circuit Sentiments are light-up pop-up greeting card kits. Creators build a unique card and learn simple circuitry and paper engineering techniques in the process. The kits include pre-cut paper shapes and electronic components, and the best part is, makers give the final creation to someone they love!
Electric Embellishments are light-up paper flower pins that creators customize and wear. The pre-cut paper flowers can be mixed and matched to create thousands of combinations. They’re great for fashion, cake toppers, party decor, and more!
What is the purpose of this loan?
This loan will help me create a finished inventory for holiday sales. This will include:
• Producing my first run of Electric Embellishments Kits by hiring a printer to manufacture the paper flowers with die cutting and foil stamping processes, and to print the instructions and packaging.
• Partnering with Employment Horizons, (a local non-profit organization providing employment opportunities to people with disabilities) to provide packaging and kitting services for both Electric Embellishments and Circuit Sentiments kits to be ready for the 2016 holiday season.
Professional manufacturing and fulfillment will ensure the delivery of high-quality results to every customer, while supporting businesses in my community. 🙂
