Epic Fantasy Book Launch – Cape Town
About the Author
Shaun has published the epic fantasy series: The Celenic Earth Chronicles (www.celenicearth.wordpress.com), which has battle and magic themes similar to Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and the Riftwar Saga. He is currently working on another fantasy series, a horror series, and a crime novel.
As a member of the Writer’s Guild of South Africa, Shaun also writes screenplays for assignments and personal projects. His latest work is the sci-fi screenplay “The Space Drifter”, which was submitted to and recommended by the Cinequest Screenwriting Festival.
Shaun is also the Editor-in-chief of the recently established Global Council of Extraordinary Writers (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/181885-global-council-of-extraordinary-writers) which is a platform for writers around the world to connect, share experiences and assist each other with marketing and promotions.
Finally, Shaun is the Editor of the Celenic Earth Newsletter, a paper established to inform readers and followers on updates, writing genres, author interviews and anything else linked to writing.
Shaun lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa, with his wife and two children
About the Novels
The Celenic Earth Chronicles is an epic fantasy series very much like JRR Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings”, and like other fantasy authors such as Raymond E Feist, JK Rowling and Robert Rankin.
Breaking into the market
Being recognised for fantasy novels is easier in the US and UK, but not so much in South Africa. In our country, it is more about how the author presents himself and has book launches to make himself known. It is hard for a SA author to break into the market and get support from the community, but one tried and tested method with the most success is book launches.
Financial Stability and Sustainability
However, obtaining the capital to print the books for the launch is not always possible for a new author. This will be my first launch, and the funding acquired from the success of the launch will allow me to sustainably fund future launches. It is only the initial launch that I will need capital for.
Opportunities
Cape Town has many book launch opportunities and venues where authors can promote their books and do interviews and talks. Yet, the author must make his own books available at his own cost. The means and the locations to do the launch are readily available though, with the venue assisting with the marketing strategies.
Project Marketting
The book launch will be announced on my website, social media and some of the project funds will be used for advertising campaigns.
Project MilestonesThe initial capital required for the amount of units I need for each set of books is R30k. If I include the investment required for the rewards, this raises it up to R40k. For the best possible outcome, R60k is required. Anything about that will assist me with future launches and overhead expenses
