Mayra’s story

I was born in Cholateca, Honduras. Cholateca is a small community town full of villages near the Pacific ocean. I grew up in a family of six brothers and sisters and I am the second oldest. My father drove a school bus for a living and my Mom took care of the house and the animals on our small farm. She made cheese and sold it to our neighbors in the community.

I emigrated to the United States in 2014 with my two daughters seeking a better life. As a single mother I was looking for better opportunities to support my girls.

This loan is special because:

It supports a single working mother looking to open her community-focused beauty salon.

More about this loan

Business Description

When I came here to this country I had some experience with cutting and styling hair. I have spent the last couple of years working out of my home cutting ladies hair. I have saved $2,000 over the last couple of years and I recently started looking for a place to rent to start my own beauty salon.

I recently found a place on International Blvd. in Oakland near where I live. I am a little nervous to strike out on my own and to rent a shop however I am excited and full of hope to expand my business.

What is the purpose of this loan?

This loan will provide me with enough money to pay for the down payment for my space.
