Elsa Gladys’s story

I have over 40 years handcrafting bracelets, purses, woven bags, and woven gloves. I grew up in a large family in Ecuador. After a large earthquake I moved to Oakland by myself, where I now live on my own. This was necessary to find work and the opportunity to support my parents and my two daughters back in Ecuador. They are my motivation for starting business here and they are the driving force behind my business. I love the opportunity that the United States offers.

This loan is special because:

It helps a women entrepreneur to grow her handicraft business in the San Francisco Bay Area.

More about this loan

Business Description

I started learning about handicrafting from my parents as a child. One of my biggest joys is to make crafts by hand and provide goods for other people. Crafting and creating has always been something I have identified with especially as it relates to my culture. In Ecuador, this method and style of crafting has been passed down for generations and makes me feel close to my ancestors. I enjoy sharing this experience with my customers in California.
