PORTUGAL NORTH TO SOUTH WITH A RED NOSE

Challenge: hike portugal north to south. Goal: raise funds for operação nariz vermelho.

This year I decided to hike in Portugal, a personal challenge I wanted to achieve after reading Wild  by Cheryl Strayed, an American girl who decided to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in the US by herself and also Portugal on Foot by Nuno Ferreira, a Portuguese young man who had the guts to hike through Portugal, also by himself.

Because this is such a big challenge, I decided to do this for a noble cause and raise funds for Operação Nariz Vermelho (ONV), a Portuguese charitable organization, with a mission to bring joy to hospitalized children and their families through the art and image of the Doctor Clown.

This commitment of helping this cause isn’t new to me, I jumped from an airplane with a red nose last year also to raise funds for Operação Nariz Vermelho and for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity in the UK.

The plan is to hike through this cities:

Melgaço, Monção, Valença, Rubiães, Ponte de Lima, Goães, Braga, Guimarães, Santo Tirso, Porto, Lourosa, São João da Madeira, Oliveira de Azeméis, Albergaria-a-Velha, Águeda, Anadia, Mealhada, Coimbra, Cernache, Rabaçal, Ansião, Alvaiázere, Tomar, Golegã, Santarém, Salvaterra de Magos, Benavente, Samora Correia, Alcochete, Pinhal Novo, Setúbal, Comporta, Melides, Santiago do Cacém, Cercal, São Luís, Odemira, São Teotónio, Odeceixe, Aljezur, Bensafrim, Lagos, Portimão, Albufeira, Almancil, Faro.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Since September 2015 that I have been dedicating my time to voluntary causes. I spent five weeks in Akshay School in Bodhgaya, India and one week in the orphanage of Sarvodaya Headquarters, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, where I had the unique experience of knowing both cultures, habits and traditions. In Portugal I embraced the vision of Vale das Lobas, a rural regeneration project, by helping out with admin work and translations; I’m a volunteer in Refood, a project that aims to stop hunger in our neighborhoods. For a few years I ran 5Km to support Race for Life in London, and last year I jumped from an airplane with a red nose to raise funds for Operação Nariz Vermelho and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity.
