Andrea’s story

My background was founded in graphic design and art communication. I then continued my education at a finishing school for advertising. Soon after, I veered off into project management and event production where I discovered I could use my creative mindset within administration and logistics. Due to another business I will later start with my father, I also enrolled in enology courses to understand the craft of winemaking.

When this project was presented to me I started researching how to effectively start a business. I listened to lectures mainly from Stanford and Berkeley regarding entrepreneurship and business planning. It wasn’t until this exposure that I recognized without a doubt that I have the entrepreneurial spirit.

As a hybrid of many things, the creation of Safety Pods has given me the allowance to utilize all of my skills as well as the opportunity to start to walk in my full potential.

A Safety Pod is a multifunctional 10’x20’ for $87K or 10’x30’ for $91K hardened underground shelter designed for the 200K plus urban / suburban household. These shelters provide a safe haven from unfortunate occurrences to catastrophic attacks on our nation. Multifunctional furnishings within the shelter provide aesthetic appeal while the wine and root cellar portion bears year-round usage. Sourced from an experienced shelter building team in Utah, the shelter body of a Safety Pod is constructed with the highest safety standards on the market. The structure of the shelter body is a Galvanized Corrugated Steel Pipe with interior floors that create 7’ of head space and 3’ of storage space under the floor.

Competition: There are two main underground shelter companies servicing the majority of the demand primarily due to media attention on reality TV shows, secondarily by their own marketing contributions. One of the companies produces square shelters, and the other producers round pipe shelters. They both offer “made-to-order” and “ultimate customization” along with a vast variety of options on their pricing pages. Aesthetically, their interiors are dull and drab being coated in epoxy white.

A Kiva loan helps me to: initiate the beginning phases of marketing, pay for civil engineer and attorney fees, and obtain business insurance.

This Kiva loan will create growth by helping us with the cost of releasing specific ads on our target market through Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. Our team has done their research on our specific target market, giving us the language to effectively speak to them on these platforms. Out of home Marketing Deliverables will be: door hangers placed on target households and brochures strategically placed in specific recreational outlets.

With the help of this Kiva loan, our product will be made aware to our target market allowing initial inquiries and engagements to occur.

Before a sale can occur we need a civil engineer within Minnesota to sign off on the designs. Once that is done we can obtain business insurance. We will also need an attorney to review contracts.
