As an African-American woman born, raised, and currently living in New York City, I decided that I wanted to get more in touch with both my rich Nigerian and West Indian cultures. I consider myself lucky that I was born here, and that I was afforded the opportunities that many others only wish that they had.
I started wearing colorful head wraps that my mom had around the house. I found that the response was overwhelmingly positive! Men and women of all ages and races complimented me on them, and I figured what a better way to share my newfound love for head wraps than to offer them for sale!
It is extremely important to me that I give back to the young women and girls in Nigeria and Dominica, West Indies, where my parents were born. 15% of every head wrap sale will go to programs which directly help young women and girls to get a proper education.
I am a creative, passionate person, and I feel like this will help me to start a business that will allow me, not only to provide for my family, but to also help young girls grow and prosper, who may otherwise not have the opportunity.
