My name is Cyndi and I’m originally from Brooklyn, NYC. I’m hardworking, resourceful, creative, inventive & curious about the world and everything in it. I love helping people and learning about different cultures & languages and for as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted to own my own business and I’m positive that it was mostly influenced by the entrepreneurial spirit my mom exhibited despite the struggles I witnessed her go through as a young child. I remember being 5 or 6 years old, helping her separate the orders for the door-to-door cosmetics she sold or slices of cakes and pies she’d make and sell to fellow students & teachers at night school. My mom has always been my biggest motivation to succeed in life because I’d love nothing more than to do as much for her as she has done for my siblings and I all our lives.
It’s always been my goal to start a business that would bring the most happiness to myself, as well as, other people and with my business, Build-a-Biscuit, I truly believe that I’m that much closer to achieving that. Build-a-Biscuit is a ‘real food fast’ restaurant that allows a customer to start with a square, buttermilk biscuit and choose from a list of scratch-made toppings like chicken pot pie, Caribbean seafood curry bisque, beef brisket, caramel apples and chocolate gravy, to go in between.. in a box. I make over 15 toppings (some American comfort food favorites, some international that I’ve disguised with a catchy name) that a customer can choose from evoking culinary creativity with the comfort of knowing that they’re eating real, farm-to-table food made with love and passion.
Through my restaurant I’ve been able to help people of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly, enjoy a real meal that’s often nostalgic & reminiscent of their childhood. I cook using fresh ingredients and have even come up with a few scratch-made teas & fruit juices that are raved over by kids & adults alike. However, at this point my restaurant and I are in desperate need of assistance. On the outside it looks like a real restaurant – I’ve built most of the furniture with my own two hands out of wood & other materials I’d pick up here & there but on the inside I’m merely a shell of a restaurant and technically cannot be considered one. My restaurant location and I are in desperate need of real equipment and tools necessary to run successfully (a hood, stove, shelves, cooler, etc.) and/or a new location equipped to accommodate my business. For the past year I’ve been running my restaurant alone, cooking 20 minutes away at a bakery to provide my customers with the freshest food everyday. At this point I can’t afford to pay anyone with all of my equipment, & other needs, piling up.
This entire year has been quite a learning experience and I know that if I endure I can potentially grow a company that could create jobs for other hardworking people with a passion for creating great things and making others smile while simultaneously setting an amazing example for younger ones in my family to follow, be it putting them to work for work experience or aiding them in finding their passion or different alternatives of survival in life as well. Unfortunately, various addictions have trampled through my family like an angry bull leaving behind scars that aren’t easily covered up or easy to disguise. Being able to see my business to its greatest potential could potentially stop a vicious cycle of abuse for the next generation that would be immeasurably gratifying.

This loan will help me grow my business by allowing me to either move into a location fully equipped with the tools and equipment that I need to run my business smoothly and/or purchase much needed equipment necessary to operate at full capacityl
