Business Description
The purpose of my business is to create a comfortable and attractive living space for abused women. I have partnered with an organization that deals with women that have been in the sex trafficking trade and seeks to heal them. My intent is not to duplicate what this organization does or for example the Sojourner House. The housing that would be provided comes in after they have been through the program. I have a house that when repaired and remodeled would turn into a duplex with three bedrooms up and two bedrooms downstairs. There will be in residence an individual connected with that organization that would monitor these women for another year out on their own. Along with Robert Coleman who is a master carpenter, jobs can be available to women who might have an interest in carpentry. Learning how to do tile work is another option. I can teach painting and decorating, furniture refinishing and restoration, gardening and landscape. I intend to enlist the help of friends and relatives, some of whom would need to paid and others who would help as a Christian act. I have a good friend who is a horticulturist and could teach gardening and landscaping along with canning and freezing in order to make the most of a garden. A number of women are interested in the cooking field and are considering opening a café . They would need workers and It would be a great opportunity for women interested in the food industry. Sewing, including slipcover making, and quilting can be taught.
What is the purpose of this loan?
This will be a C Corp. For keeping records I use Quikbooks. However, I am not an accountant, therefore I use a professional for tax purposes and consultation. In past years the cost has been around $2,000 and I expect that to double. Competition is not a consideration because the need is so great. After owning five houses and restoring and remodeling them, refurbishing the building on 76th Street will be very rewarding. Since the house on 76th Street has a mortgage, funding is a definite issue. The remodel and repair is estimated at $50,000. The existing roof needs to be torn off and a dormer will be built to expand the upper level. A bathroom and kitchenette will be added to the living area. The kitchen and bathroom on the first level will be redone. The house needs to be painted on the outside. Once the building is ready, furnishing both units with furniture and appliances, window treatments and miscellaneous small items will be an expense. Once this house is up and running, the next step is to move on to another. The house adjacent to mine is exactly the same and can be purchased for $125,000. It needs no repairs. Once these two homes are up and running the next step is to move on to a four unit apartment building. There is one for sale on Center Street in a decent area for $250,000. This would be their next step once they have a job and can be on their own. Robert Coleman and I plan to buy houses from the City of Milwaukee to fix up and sell. This would provide jobs for any of the women who might be interested in that type of work. The goal here is to have them stable enough and find homes in a decent area that they might purchase. The organization that I’m working with eventually hopes to pay Robert and I a salary but in the meantime as you can see, funding is needed in the amount of $500,000.
