Leaf & Clay pots are handmade by talented and passionate artisans in Indonesia. Each pot includes a succulent of your choice!
At Leaf & Clay, our story began just over a year ago with a blog and Instagram page dedicated to succulents. Since then, we have cultivated a large community of like-minded succulent enthusiasts who truly love and appreciate these awesome plants.
It’s no secret that nature has a way of influencing product design, and in the case of Leaf & Clay, succulents were the perfect guide. Just like succulents, our pots are thoughtful of the environment, beautifully designed, and uniquely their own.
For us, it’s important that our products not only look good, but also do good. That’s why our pots are handmade by talented and passionate artisans in Indonesia. The tradition of hand-making goods is critical to the preservation of culture and the sustainability of skilled labor.
With Leaf & Clay, you can feel good knowing that your support helps to provide full-time jobs for local artisans in Indonesia, and positively impact the communities in which they live.
Our pots are hand-thrown on the potter’s wheel using native clays procured from Indonesia’s rich volcanic soils. They are then intricately carved by hand and finished with various colored glazes mixed from scratch.
The time and attention-to-detail that goes into the creation of each piece is truly awe-inspiring, and because they’re handmade, no two Leaf & Clay pots are the same.
But what’s a ceramic pot without the perfect plant to fill it? To show our appreciation for your support, we will include a succulent or cactus of your choice, potting soil, and decorative white pebbles with each pot purchased.
Leaf & Clay pots are more than just a product—they are an extension of the artisans themselves. Their time, stories, and passion can all be found within their creations, making them all the more special.
But why make the pots by hand and not by machine? Why does it matter where they’re made? The answer is simple—it’s necessary.
In a time where there is virtually no connection left between the products we buy and the people who make them, the tradition of hand-making goods is critical to the preservation of culture and the sustainability of skilled labor.
By supporting this project, you are helping to do both of those things and more—you are helping to provide full-time jobs for local artisans in Indonesia, and positively impact the communities in which they live. In return, you receive a one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality work of art that you’ll love and be proud to have in your home for years to come.
While modern consumer culture has taught us that products should be purchased without thought, and discarded just as easily, we at Leaf & Clay have an alternative view. We believe that products should tell a story—they should be worth keeping and cherished enough to be handed down, but the only way that can happen is by celebrating and supporting the maker.
So please, join us in our effort to preserve culture and sustain skilled labor by backing our project today. Thank you!

Leaf & Clay was co-founded by siblings Nick and Lauren Sandford of Orange, California. Their mutual love of succulents and handmade goods led to the genesis of Leaf & Clay a little over a year ago.
Nick is a former Division 1 football player and graduate of San Diego State University’s College of Business Administration. He is passionate about product design and development. His favorite succulent is Echeveria Black Knight.
Lauren is a former Division 1 soccer player and graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Leed’s School of Business. She absolutely loves succulents and has a soft spot for cacti!
We have already established the supply chain to ensure a successful delivery of Leaf & Clay pots, however there is always potential for delay.
Delay may be caused due to transpacific shipping schedules. We do not anticipate that this will be a problem, but it is always a possibility.
The only other issue that may occur, and would be welcomed, is that this project receives overwhelming support and those who fund later in the campaign experience a production delay.
We will be providing weekly updates from the end of the campaign through delivery.
We are always available to chat at hello@leafandclay.co!
