I am a woman of Caribbean descent from Haitian and Puerto Rican parents. I was born and raised mostly in Florida where I was exposed to several languages and tongues and customs. My family was very traditional in the holistic life practices that took place and both of these cultures afforded me with a foundation in this healthy alternative. Being that I was raised by my grandparents, I was afforded the opportunity to be able to watch both of my grandparents as they prepared herbs and tended to the earth. We grew a lot of our own fruits and vegetables and used herbal tonics for ailments and healthful living. My grandparents also practiced principles of peace and minimalism. My grandmother, who attended my birth, encouraged me to partake in these same principles. I lost my grandparents while I was young, but I still remember the things that they taught me. After losing my grandmother to Alzheimer’s, I started to stray from the way of life that I was accustomed to. I began suffering from depression and battling my own series of health issues. Less than a year ago, I moved to California in search of better life for myself and my children after a tumultuous end to a relationship with their father. This has caused me to reassess my life and complete healing work so that I may move on in life and live happily. With the teachings of Queen Afua and other women’s health and healing advocates, I have transitioned to such a happy place in my life. During this journey, what I have come to find in life is that my purpose is to help other women in the same manner that my grandparents helped me. My dream is to provide a safe environment for women to heal themselves and grow from whatever may come their way.
