I am Vanda Rennie Jamison, a native of Harlem and an active supporter of my community. I was born and raised in the ghetto yet had the fortune to attend private school from first through twelfth grade. I chose to anchor myself in Harlem after college in the early 80’s at the advice of my mother. I worked diligently to organize and give back to a neighborhood that was destined for demise and apartment warehousing. I encouraged peers and colleagues to support my mission of revival and invited them move into my Harlem tenement at extremely low rent. Through sincere efforts and hard work I positioned myself on the frontlines in my community and together, we successfully created strength, diversity and affordable housing. As a result, we have been an instrumental part of the framework that has transformed a distressed Harlem into a thriving and desirable community. I have lived in the same apartment building now for 33 years. The concept of “DELICIOUS” was born in the 80’s after a long stretch of employment at a little shop in NYC called “The Erotic Baker”, where I learned to create sexy yet tasteful cakes for all occasions. For more than 20 years now, I have positioned myself in the catering and restaurant industry. All the while, cooking out of my own kitchen and planning events for a host of wonderful friends and supportive clients. With a substantial amount of industry experience under my belt, i am ready to branch out into a professional space and kitchen that will offer my best menu items to the community.
Fusing the food/restaurant industry with my dedication to supporting the Harlem community, “DELICIOUS” will be a friendly neighborhood cafe as well as a platform to create outreach and unity. “DELICIOUS” will use its position to ally and assist local agencies in fundraising and activities that support health, education and peace while eradicating boundaries of race, ethnicity and culture.
