Our Story
Tomorrow Foundation provides a range of developmental services to refugee and migrant children and youth between the ages of 5 to 18. Our mission is to provide directly tailored services that empower, build knowledge and develop confidence in refugee and migrant children. Our programs have a focus on educational and social development, as well as health and wellbeing.
Established in 2012, Tomorrow Foundation has evolved from a community group running a homework club at a local school to opening Victoria’s first Refugee Migrant Children Centre in early 2016. Our range of programs are run by a passionate and dedicated team, in partnership with referring community and governmental organisations.
But we’ve identified a key issue affecting refugee & migrant youth in Australia
The transition from school to employment is a challenging and daunting transitional phase. Refugee, migrant and asylum seeker youth encounter additional barriers and often lack the knowledge of the Australian labour market, and the networks that can facilitate finding employment.
Young people tend to suffer higher unemployment rates than adults, although those that face the greatest challenges to both labour market entry and sustained participation include those from lower socio-economic backgrounds and who are newly arrived migrants.
Here’s what we’re doing about it
The Common Social Cafe will create independence, sustainability, growth and long-term impact for the refugee and migrant children and youth we support. It will not only prepare youth for the workforce, the profits The Common Social generates will also ensure all the programs of Tomorrow Foundation will continue to make a life changing impact.
The Common Social will provide hands-on hospitality training, work experience, guidance and employment opportunities to over 50 refugees, asylum seeker and migrant youth each year. It will also facilitate networking and mentoring opportunities with industry professionals.
This initiative is a long-lasting investment that will change people’s lives from the ages of five all the way up until adulthood.
