Fireside Audiobox – Light your music on fire.

The Fireside Audiobox is a beautifully crafted Bluetooth-enabled audio player with flames that respond to your music.

About this project

Thanks for checking out Fireside Audiobox! I’m really proud of this creation, and it feels really good to finally set it loose here on Kickstarter. Read on for product info and campaign details, and please support and share!

– Tyrone Hazen, Creator & Founder

The Fireside Audiobox adds flames to your favorite music. It’s hand-crafted, one of a kind, beautifully-designed and show-stopping. Music and fire combine synergistically to provide a mesmerizing experience, with unique flame-signatures and patterns for each track on your playlist (it’s all about the sound waves – keep reading for the techy details). Turn on your Fireside Audiobox, connect your music via Bluetooth, light the fire, and it’s showtime.

Designed in Bend, Oregon, the Fireside Audiobox is a music player, a design showpiece, and a guaranteed conversation starter.

The Fireside Audiobox is more than dancing flames. Any object you place in your home should speak to you, and those you invite inside. My goal with the aesthetics of the audiobox was to ensure that it was a beautiful addition to your home as well as a conversation starter. It needs to look elegant and intriguing, while still looking like it belongs where you place it, even when not in use. It is a functional piece of art.

I use one of my prototypes as my everyday music player. In the evening, I fire it up and settle into a meditative-like state after a long day. A craft beer is a nice addition, too.

This is a true DIY experiment that’s been refined for the design enthusiast that loves to get together with friends and turn some heads. I’d be thrilled and honored to know that the Fireside Audiobox has earned a spot in your home.

The idea for the Fireside Audiobox was born in 2013 while I was working in a maker-space in San Diego. Trying to educate myself in prototyping and fabrication, I needed a project that required the use of all areas and most machines in the shop. With a physics background and an interest in fire, I got to work. The response to my prototype was overwhelming; people loved it.

Hoping to eventually produce these at scale, I started diving into the design, functionality and user experience in great detail. After three years of refinements, I’m incredibly happy with the final results.

In opposition to more standard go-to-market strategies, I thought it would be more fun to bring the Fireside Audiobox directly to the people through Kickstarter. Due to its visual nature, the on-trend styling and the current popularity of unique, bespoke functional design pieces, I thought Kickstarter was the most direct route to my audience. Selling directly also allows me to offer a considerably lower price and gives me a personal connection to my backers (and vice versa). So, here we are, on Kickstarter!

• Dimensions: The lightweight, self-contained audio system stands 19.5 inches high, 14 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep.

• Bluetooth-Enabled: With its built-in Bluetooth technology, users are able pair the Fireside Audiobox with any Bluetooth-enabled device for easy music streaming.

• Battery-Powered: The onboard Li-po battery provides more than 8 hours of constant music on a single charge (power adapter).

• Propane Duration: The 16.4 oz canister typically lasts about 8 hours depending on pressure, environmental variables and the intensity of your music.

Science! I mapped the audio waves within the aluminum tube and identified the spots along its length that would produce the most responsive and dramatic flame effects.

You’ll get the Fireside Audiobox audio player base, the glass shield, a power charger for the internal battery, and instructions for very simple set-up and maintenance. The only thing I can’t send you in the mail is the propane canister (like what you’d use on a camping stove), so you’ll need to grab one of those at your local hardware or camping store. Usually just 3-4 bucks each.

Fireside Audioboxes will arrive at your door in April, 2017. Manufacturing will ramp up as soon as this Kickstarter campaign wraps. Can’t wait!

Thanks for checking out the Fireside Audiobox – I know you’re going to love it. I deeply appreciate your help as I work to surpass my goal, and any pledge amount brings us one step closer to success. Help me produce and deliver this product and there will be many more interactive, hand-made art pieces to follow!

Click the ‘Back This Project’ button up top, and please spread the word by sharing this page. Thank you!

Check out the Natural vs Dark finishes, and the custom Zippo lighter at the $25 level. Many more rewards details and previews to come here as the campaign progresses.

Risks and challenges

I’m confident that production and delivery of the Fireside Audiobox will result in happy backers. I have several working prototypes but like everything else on Kickstarter, this is a living process and manufacturing at scale is a beastly task. Timing, unforeseen circumstances, delays from manufacturing and distribution are risks with launching any product.

Because of this, I have been assembling a talented and experienced board of advisers with knowledge and contacts in the manufacturing scene, including the CEO of a locally-based, internationally-known contract manufacturing facility (he’s gonna come in really handy).

My promise to you is that I will keep you updated regularly with all of the news (not just the good) as we work our way towards delivery of your Fireside Audiobox.
