We are approaching the northern hemisphere peak selling season, and have recently dedicated ourselves to a direct to consumer model. By focusing on raising our inventory levels on key selling items we are able to quickly increase sales and meet demand. These items all have back orders waiting to fill and our factory is ready to start knitting!
About Banjo & Matilda
Banjo & Matilda is an E-commerce only, New-luxury lifestyle brand at uninflated prices.
The founder Belynda Macpherson identified the emerging casualization of the luxury fashion market and combined her passion for cashmere, the Australian beach lifestyle and frustrationover the lack of accessible quality cashmere to create a new, more relevant luxury brand. One that was born on line as a direct to consumer ecommerce model thereby eliminating the unnecessary margin’s that department and specialty stores take, enabling the brand to focus on a luxury quality product, but without inflated luxury prices.
Total global apparel sales reached $1.1T+ in 2015 with physical store sales declining 2%, and online e-commerce sales increasing 19%.
Banjo & Matilda is known for luxury quality casual cashmere knitwear which retails for 1/3rd of the price of a traditional luxury brand offering similar quality. Streamlining the production process by partnering with cashmere yarn producers in inner Mongolia (where 98% of the worlds cashmere originates), and manufacturing in specialist factories with deep knitting expertise, the company sells directly to customers online, avoiding the unnessesary retailer markup, conveniently delivering a luxury quality product at an accessible price point.
About the owner
Banjo & Matilda was founded by Australian born Creative Director Belynda Macpherson in 2009, after an extensive career in publicity, fashion publishing and marketing. Prior company’s where Belynda worked include Grazia, Harpers Bazaar and Maddison fashion magazines, major film studios including WarnerBrothers, Universal Studios and Columbia TriStar Pictures; and, the Australian tourism industry marketing body Tourism Australia. Belynda also founded her own publicity firm “Global Artist” which she successfully sold to a larger group in 2002.
In addition to Belynda, the company’s CEO is Ben Macpherson. Ben has helped Belynda build the business, initially overseeing finance and ecommerce marketing on a part time basis. After selling his shareholdings in an Australian retail food chain in 2013, Ben joined the company full time. Mr. Macpherson has a background in founding, building and selling brands and businesses.
