A Thousand Cranes To Happiness

1000 pieces of paper. The possibility of good fortune. Lots and lots of cranes.

About this project

Thousand Origami Cranes (千羽鶴) are believed to bring luck and good fortune to anyone who folds one thousand, and on completion the maker will be granted a wish.

I have a wish, one that has been at the forefront of my mind for almost 2 years now, and I am hoping this project (and the good luck that will accompany it) will motivate me to finally take control to put my wish into motion.

My goal is to make 33 (give or take) origami cranes a day for the next 30 days, until I have one thousand. And while I believe I will give them all a wonderful home, I want to spread my good fortune.

Each of these hand-made paper birds will be named and numbered so you will be guaranteed a unique crane.

These cranes will be 12cm x 12cm on various coloured and patterned paper. As they are all hand-made, they may not be folded to perfection but they will be made with love and happy thoughts.

I am folding 1000 origami cranes, which are each looking for new homes to hopefully make other peoples wishes come true.

Risks and challenges

It is possible these beautiful birds are not magical and this will all have been for nothing. But I am willing to risk setting my time aside just for this project. And the completion will be enough to make me happy.
